Pedestal Table

I’ve completed the pedestal table, Duncan Phyfe style. It’s maple with a brown aniline dye mixed with satin polyurethane. Single dovetailed drawer, claw feet caps. The pedestal was turned on a lathe.

Handtool cabinet boxes

Here are the two handtool cabinet boxes I was working on. Now I can put plane accessories etc. away. The fronts are from maple burl, the drawer parts are walnut.

Half blind dovetails for the fronts, through dovetails for the backs.

Another dovetailed box

Back at ‘er. Another small #handtool cabinet box. It’s been a while since I’ve done dovetails but even with the time gone by it’s the tightest and quickest yet. #woodworking #walnut

Macro Photography

Here’s something I’ve wanted to do for a while, take a close up picture of a plane blade before and after sharpening.

It’s not perfect but the second picture with the microbevel is sharper than it was before.

Cut bolts quick and safe

I needed to trim many bolts to an odd length. This is how I did it using a scrap of wood, drill and a jig saw.

Shortening tablesaw rails

I bought shorter 32” rails for my tablesaw to replace my current 52” ones for my new smaller shop space.  The generic brand didn’t fit my old fence which wanted the square tubing ¼” wider that was on my original 52” fence setup so the clamp wouldn’t grab.

I went to a metal supplier and got flat aluminum bar that was 1.5” wide and ¼” thick, drilled/countersunk holes and tapped mating holes in the 32” rail to build it out.

Works like a charm.

Cost me $16 to fix the problem

Stanley #113 compass plane

This is the best looking Stanley #113 compass plane I’ve seen. This particular one is a type #2 from 1880-1891 and it moves like butter. Nothing stiff or corroded like it was out of the box.
